Hanover Harvest Moon – 9/8/14

Great MoonRise earlier this evening as I was heading into the Studio, so I grabbed my camera and ran back over to the Square, and…. that was that!

Fill ‘Er Up Boys…

After a Wedding when I get back to the Studio, I’m always excited to dump the days files and see what I shot. Usually I already have an idea where some favorites will lie and that was so much the case tonight after Katie & Jon’s  great Wedding. I’ve seen this run-down dump many times in my visits to Watkins Glen and often thought it had a great look to it, especially for my style of shooting. Well today I had my chance to give it a try and it did not let me down! Jon & his “Grease Monkey Gang” really nailed it!  DING… DING….FILL’ER UP BOYS!

“It’s Almost Time…”

I ALWAYS loved the way this place looked, each & every time I passed it by. I finally got to shoot it a few Weddings back, and it did not disappoint!

Army Days

Memorial Day, brings back memories from long ago, when brave young men & women went off to fight in World War II, the “War to End All War’s” or so they said……so what a perfect day to post a few more Army & Air Force themed personal favorites from this weekend’s moving Return of the Red Tails event honoring the Heroic Tuskegee Airmen of WWII, held at the Wings Of Eagles Discovery Center. As the Events Official Photographer I had the honor to spend the day amongst these hero’s, and also with one of the only two remaining P-51 Fighters that are still flying today.  It was a true honor. My thanks to all the Period Re-En actors featured in these great shots.

Great Job you two!

Four Years Ago Today…

I just realized after glancing at the Calendar that it was four years ago yesterday & today that Shelly & I  were honored to be guests at The White House while shooting my most incredible Engagement Session ever! To roam the halls of the White House while shooting Mary & David……the feeling just can’t be explained! Then to top that, we received an Invitation to the Formal Welcoming Ceremonies for the Mexican President, all being held the next day out on the White House South Lawn. Never in a Million Years would I have ever dreamed I’d have this chance to shoot at the most famous residence in the world! 🙂

“Sparly, Very Sparkly!”

Kinda cool, some of the “Hardware” I’ve gotten to photograph so far over my 14 seasons as Elmira Jackals Team Photographer . Last night it was Kacey Bellamy’s 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Silver Medal for The U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team. Then, a few years back in 2010, it was opposition coach, Neil Smiths 1993-’94 New York Rangers Stanley Cup Champions diamond clustered ring

“The Diner” Couldn’t Be Finer!

Early this afternoon I had lunch with some family & friends just around the corner from the Studio. Actually, they had lunch & I had a great omelet breakfast at Horseheads’ newest old eatery, now known as “The Diner”.
In a past life,  this was formerly “Sullivan’s Diner” owned & operated by my lifelong friend Artie Sullivan’s Mom & Dad, Fran & Art Sullivan, who rescued it…the old “Vick’s Diner” from Madison Ave. in Downtown Elmira after the great flood of ’72. They lovingly filled many “Horseheadian’s” bellies for well over 30 years.
Recently though, the Diner was given a new life when it was purchased & completely & painstakingly renovated, modernized & updated, while still maintaining that original old time classic diner “feel”. The new owner is my friend & also my in-laws neighbor, Tom Witzel,  who also happens to be a die hard N.Y. Yankees fan. You would never guess that fact after seeing the new color scheme both inside with the new tile & countertops, & outside complete with reverse Yankee Blue Pinstriping on the fabric of the front awnings.
Anyways, the food was great! And even though Tom was filling in for an under the weather waitress, the service was great & friendly as well! Do yourself a favor and stop by sometime…. you’ll be glad you did!
In case anyone was wondering, that’s Sue & George Yamasaki sitting across the booth from me.

What Was Once Old, Is New Again

My last Wedding of 2013 is tomorrow, I just got back from Rehearsal & Dinner at the Spectacular,  Completely Renovated and Restored Cowles Hall of Elmira College, where the Wedding will be held. The Chapel is absolutely Breathtaking! Nested at the center of the huge structure, my Groom’s Dad is the Director of Facilities at the College, so I got a VIP tour of the entire place, and it is just beyond description. These windows, of Mark Twain & Olivia Langdon, are but two of a couple dozen or so that grace the inside of the Chapel, complete with a hi-tech, digital back-lighting system behind them so that it always looks like its a bright sunny day outside, on all sides of the room. Word is that the windows alone are valued at well over 2 million dollars. Wow!
