Silently Losing My Mind!!!! 06/22/11

Late Sunday Night my computer got hit with a Sasser Virus and knocked me right on my butt! The computer was in the capable hands of my buddy John Cecce @ Bit Bucket Computers all day Monday getting swept of all bugs & having Windows re-loaded, and ever since I have been here, battling technology 1000 different ways while trying to get all of my programs back, re-installed, re-loaded and re-configured to the way they were!. After the second day in a row of leaving the Studio after 3:00 A.M., I’m kinda wishing for the good old days…. of FILM & CHEMICALS & DARKROOMS!

Life was soooo much simpler way back then! Good Night Cruel World!

Valerie & Billy, up on Jerusalem “Hilly” 06/09/11

“Talk about ending the hot day on a perfect note! Tonight I had the pleasure to do an Engagement Shoot with my July 16, 2011 couple Valerie & Billy. Seems I know a lot of Val’s neighbors as she grew up on Jerusalem Hill and I’m also shooting her Cousin Katie’s Wedding in September 2012. I am also good friends with Billy’s Dad Bill, and his sister Anne….so we had lots of things to talk about!

Anyway, we wanted to do this special shoot up on Val’s Grandfather’s farm, which has been in her family for…well forever! So off to the farm I went, and the first lesson I learned when I got there, was not to wear Keen Sandals when you are going to be trapping around a Cow/Milk Farm! We walked around the pasture as the kids showed me some of the landscapes we might use in our shots….but I was driven by this vision I had in my head before I even arrived….to go into the barn…up in the Hayloft!

“Do you have a hayloft up in the top of that barn, I asked?”  Of course they did!

I had to climb up through a hole in the first floor ceiling, on something that at one time most likely resembled a ladder of some kind…..but when I got up into that dark loft, and into the stuffy 95 degree heat…..it was just what I had imagined, and what I was hoping for! Lots of hay bales,  piled up against the westward facing side of the barn…. with spider webs, dust, and with the late evening summertime sun just burning through the wide gaps in the 150 year old barnwood plank walls…….Just what the Dr. Ordered! Check’ Em out!  The only things missing for you viewers, are all of the farm SMELLS!!!

I love it when a plan comes together! Thanks Val & Billy for being so much fun to work with, and for your efforts toward the fantastic memories we created together tonight. Now I can’t wait for the Wedding!”    Rick

From Brides to Ballerinas!

Even though my 2011 Wedding Season is now in full swing…..during the week I still take on ALL kinds of other interesting shoots! Today was no exception…finishing up this shoot for my friend and a former Bride of mine Laura, who along with her Husband Marc own & operate  Elmira Fitness Center & The Elmira Gymnastics Club now located in Lake Hills Plaza-Horseheads, NY. One of these little angels got camera shy, but luckily I coaxed her out of it with a Tootsie Pop from my Studio Stash! Gotta just love bribery…it works every time!

Notre Dame Lady Crusaders – Champs! 06/04/11

After very little sleep while shooting  the ACS Relay For Life in Horseheads throughout the evening, I took a quick nap then made an afternoon freelancing trek down to Binghamton for the Rochester Catholic Courier to cover the Section 4 – Class C Softball Finals. The Lady Crusaders defeated Tioga by the final score of 2-0..Taylor Drake belted a 2 run homer in the fifth inning for all the runs ND would need, and Sophomore pitching sensation Olivia May struck out 12 on her way to the two hit shutout gem.

American Cancer Society – Relay For Life – Horseheads, NY 06/03-04/11

A long afternoon turned into Midnight and well beyond as we were graced with great weather for this very important event, and my second year of volunteering as the event photographer. Met many friends, talked and laughed a lot, and yet was also reminded of many others no longer with us, as we all continue the valiant fight, in their names, to hopefully one day soon, wipe Cancer from the face of this Earth.

Getting into the 2011 Wedding Groove!

After a really slow Spring (cuz of the late Easter & Lent, so everyone says), I’m really looking forward to kicking off my 2011 Wedding Campaign with a very special couple Jessica & Mike and their families up in the Ithaca, NY area! I got to know Jess & Mike at our Cornell Engagement shoot last spring, and I’m so excited about what’s to come on the 10th & 11th! Enjoy Everybody!
