Valerie & Billy, up on Jerusalem “Hilly” 06/09/11
“Talk about ending the hot day on a perfect note! Tonight I had the pleasure to do an Engagement Shoot with my July 16, 2011 couple Valerie & Billy. Seems I know a lot of Val’s neighbors as she grew up on Jerusalem Hill and I’m also shooting her Cousin Katie’s Wedding in September 2012. I am also good friends with Billy’s Dad Bill, and his sister Anne….so we had lots of things to talk about!
Anyway, we wanted to do this special shoot up on Val’s Grandfather’s farm, which has been in her family for…well forever! So off to the farm I went, and the first lesson I learned when I got there, was not to wear Keen Sandals when you are going to be trapping around a Cow/Milk Farm! We walked around the pasture as the kids showed me some of the landscapes we might use in our shots….but I was driven by this vision I had in my head before I even arrived….to go into the barn…up in the Hayloft!
“Do you have a hayloft up in the top of that barn, I asked?” Of course they did!
I had to climb up through a hole in the first floor ceiling, on something that at one time most likely resembled a ladder of some kind…..but when I got up into that dark loft, and into the stuffy 95 degree heat…..it was just what I had imagined, and what I was hoping for! Lots of hay bales, piled up against the westward facing side of the barn…. with spider webs, dust, and with the late evening summertime sun just burning through the wide gaps in the 150 year old barnwood plank walls…….Just what the Dr. Ordered! Check’ Em out! The only things missing for you viewers, are all of the farm SMELLS!!!
I love it when a plan comes together! Thanks Val & Billy for being so much fun to work with, and for your efforts toward the fantastic memories we created together tonight. Now I can’t wait for the Wedding!” Rick
