Conveyor Construction @ The Holding Point

Earlier this year in February I posted about the demolition of warehouse “H”, to clear the way for a brand new, state of the art sand unloading & storage facility on its footprint. The building has been leveled, the debris cleared away, new structural steel has arrived, and construction has begun. I stopped by the site this evening and found this interesting site. on the west side of the old Warehouse “H” foundation, right along “A” street…a small section of the RR tracks right next to the building have been removed, for this construction that you see in these pictures. What I believe is going to happen here, is that they have excavated this pit, and laid the re-rods for the concrete work that will contain a large conveyor belt assembly. After a new, larger & modern warehouse has been built & enclosed on this old building footprint, and the RR tracks will again be laid down where they once were, but this time they will carry the boxcars directly over this new pit, which will allow the dumping of sand directly from the RR cars into this pit, onto the conveyor assembly, then carry it right up and into the new warehouse.

This is a very big improvement compared to the way this emptying of sand process has been done up until now. As shown in the image below, the cars would park a considerable ways from the warehouse, workers would drag the portable conveyor unit under each dump opening on every car….which would then carry the sand up and dump it into a waiting dump truck, and then the truck would drive to the warehouse & dump the load inside. This was a very slow, cumbersome, dusty and dirty process as the sand would blow around at every step of the way.

Celebrity Look-a-Like – Regis Philbin

Next in what will be a continuing series of posts of new Celebrity Look-a-Likes that I run into during the course of my Wedding shoots!
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I spot people at Weddings, and immediately they remind me of an athlete, actor, actress, singer or politician. Once I mention it to them, others who hear the conversation always seem to chime in & agree, and usually my “Celebrity” victim has heard it all before.

Next Up…Mr. Retirement himself…Regis Philbin….I ran into Reege this weekend at Martha & Max’s April 22, 2012 Hill Top Inn Wedding!

Anyway…..Here I am with my Hero…a David Letterman Look-a-Like (& our Bride Ashley’s Uncle) from the Wedding of Ashley & Patrick last July 2, 2011.

And as Dave & I both like to say…”There is No Off Position on The Genius Switch!”

Monument Valley Memories – 1998

Last week some photographer friends & I were chatting about shooting in “the West”,  and while moving some things around the Office this weekend, I stumbled upon a few prints that I shot on vacation in July 1998 while on a solitary, 3 mile trek through these awesome, desolate & very hot badlands! So Beautiful, So Hot, & So RED!!!!

My Tribute to Titanic – 100 Years Later – 04/15/1912 – 04/15/2012

As many of my close friends know, I have always had a great interest & fascination with the Titanic , as well as what I feel is a very eerie connection to this storied ship. To commemorate the 100th Year Anniversary of her Maiden Voyage and ultimately her Journey into Eternity, I put together a nice display of some of my collection of period objects, here in the Front Lobby of my Office/Studio.

For any of you that are interested, I have also attached a link to my story, (I finally wrote it all down a few years ago because I’ve been telling it so many times) which details why I feel I have this genuine Titanic connection. So if you’ve got a few minutes, give it a read and let me know what you think? Enjoy!
